Kettering Town’s run of three successive wins was ended at a blustery Steel Park as Barwell claimed a 2-1 success.
The visitors arrived to take on the already-relegated Poppies needing victory to enhance their play-off hopes in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division.
They took the lead in the first half when Daniel Newton found the net. And the visitors added their second with 18 minutes to go through David Barnett.
But Kettering made a fight of it and gave themselves a lifeline late on when Nathan Hicks converted a penalty while Guy Hadland saw red for the visitors. However, Barwell held on to claim the points.
Thomas Baillie’s team now have two games left in their season, the first of which is a home clash with Gosport Borough on Saturday when fans are being invited to ‘pay what they want’ for their admission fee.
The Poppies will round off their campaign at another play-off contender Chesham United on Saturday week.
