Kettering Town can step up their preparations for playing at a lower level next season after their relegation from the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division was effectively confirmed after a 3-1 defeat at Frome Town.

The Poppies can still technically reach the same number of points as those who above the safety mark but, due to their huge inferior goal difference, the loss means their fate is now sealed.

After a goalless first half, the Poppies took the lead three minutes into the second half when Will Muzimbiri slotted home his second goal in as many games.

But the lead lasted just two minutes as Rhys Baggridge pulled the hosts level. And Frome went in front just past the hour mark through Henry Eze’s own-goal.

And Kettering’s misery was completed in the final minute when Mitchell Bryant made it 3-1 before Eze was sent off in stoppage-time.
