A fundraising page set up by his team-mates for injured Kettering Town right-back Durrell Berry is already on course to smash through its target.

The ‘gofundme’ page went live yesterday (Wednesday) with the aim being to help raise £1,000 for the defender, whose season was ended after he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in the 4-3 victory at Farnborough last month.

It was another devastating blow for Berry who had battled back from a broken leg suffered while he was playing for Torquay United.

He had been a key player in the Poppies’ fine start to the season but the injury has left him, not only unable to play football, but also unable to work.

And that prompted his team-mates and the staff at Latimer Park to try to bring some Christmas cheer to their colleague.

A statement issued on behalf of the Kettering players said: “Durrell Berry's season has been ended prematurely due to a serious injury. Not only does this mean no football for Durrell, but also no work.

“With Christmas approaching, Rene (Howe), AOC (Aaron O’Connor), Brett (Solkhon), Mullers (Gary Mulligan) and all the boys and staff have pledged to raise him and his family some money to make this difficult time of the year easier.

The squad have set up a 'Just Giving' page, and we ask all our fans to donate whatever you can.

“Durrell is a massive part of our squad and also a top lad. Let's show him what he means to us and make his Christmas with his family an enjoyable one.”

In less than 24 hours, the page had already raised £850. You can make a donation by clicking here
