Kettering Town’s hopes of finishing in the Calor League Division One Central play-off places suffered a huge blow as they slipped to a second successive defeat at in-form Uxbridge.
Having seen their 21-match unbeaten run ended by Barton Rovers in midweek, the Poppies went down to another loss as the home side claimed a 4-2 success.
Dean Thomas made one change from the team that was beaten at Barton as top scorer Ogbonna came into the starting line-up with James Jepson, who suffered a hamstring injury in midweek, dropping to the bench.
The Poppies got off to a poor start and found themselves 1-0 down after just three minutes as Matty Woods latched onto a pass from Kieran Knight and beat Alastair Worby with ease.
But Kettering did draw level before the break thanks to Ogbonna’s diving header from Jonathon Thorpe’s deflected cross.
Chris Logan hit the bar for the Poppies early in the second half but they fell behind again on 64 minutes when Knight slid in ahead of Tommy Hull to make it 2-1.
And the game looked up when Woods grabbed his second of the game with 15 minutes to go.
Ogbonna gave the Poppies hope when he pulled another goal back but the hope was quickly extinguished as Worby missed his kick from a throw-in and Knight ran the ball into the empty net.
Kettering now face three home games in the space of a week and a big return of points will be needed if they are to stay in the race for the top five.
