Kettering Town made comfortable progress into the second round of the Calor League Red Insure Cup with a 5-0 success over Daventry Town.
The Division One Central leaders made a host of changes from their 2-1 win over Corby Town in the FA Trophy at the weekend for the clash at Latimer Park.
And the Poppies, who announced the return of forward Kieren Joseph ahead of the game, took full advantage as they ran in four second-half goals to put Saturday’s home defeat to St Ives in the Trophy firmly behind them.
A quiet opening period ended on a good note for the hosts as Jake Newman beat the offside trap before going round the visiting goalkeeper to score.
And Kettering ran away with it after the break. Ash Fuller curled in a long-range free-kick before Jonathan Bukasa marked his first start with his his first goal for the club to make it 3-0.
Louis Hamilton hit the fourth soon after and Fuller rounded it off with another stunning free-kick.
Joseph, who was with the club in pre-seasonn and at the start of the campaign before being released, made his bow from the bench in the second period.
