Marcus Law believes his Kettering Town team “aren’t really playing pre-season football” after they racked up their fourth friendly win in a row at Arlesey Town.
Goals from Gary Mulligan, Spencer Weir-Daley, who has scored in every game so far this summer, Wilson Carvalho and Nathan Bobowicz sealed a 4-3 success at the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central side.
Law was happy that his team were posed some tricky questions during their latest outing.
And he admitted he is happy with the progress being made ahead of the Southern League Premier Division curtain-raiser at Dorchester Town in just over two weeks.
“I thought we did well,” the Poppies boss said.
“The first team, as such, played at a good level and we were able to work on a few little things.
“Arlesey caused us a few problems on the counter-attack and that was good because it gave us a chance to look at that and try to resolve it.
“Overall, I am happy. We aren’t really playing pre-season football, we’re are playing at a good tempo.”
Kettering, meanwhile, confirmed the signing of midfielder Nathan Hicks ahead of last night’s win.
Hicks has been training with the club since pre-season started and has impressed in a holding midfield role during the friendlies.
Law added: “Nathan has done well.
“We have been looking at him in a more deeper role than he might be normally used to.
“But I think anyone who has seen him will have been impressed with how he has performed.
“Good footballers will always adapt and he has shown he is capable of doing that.
“It’s now up to him to keep working away and reach his full potential.”
