Kettering Town moved a step nearer to the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central title with an excellent 1-0 win over Godalming.

The Surrey-based side were on an unbeaten run stretching back five matches so were never going to be an easy nut to crack.

And so it proved.

The Poppies started strongly and Adam Sandy saw an effort cleared off the line before Josh Moreman’s strike was ruled out after Sandy had handled in the build up.

It was Moreman that got the decisive goal just before the break.

A free-kick hit the wall but Moreman was on hand to half-volley the deflection into the net.

That was the way the scoreline stayed until the final whistle.

But Kettering had plenty of defensive work to do in order to hold on to their lead - none more than when Richard Knight brilliantly denied the on-rushing Jack Mazzone with four minutes of added time having been played.
