Kettering Town enjoyed a good afternoon as they beat Chertsey Town 2-0 in Calor League Division One Central.
First half goals from Will Muzvimbiri and Chris Logan proved to be enough the hosts claimed a thoroughly deserved three points.
The margin of victory could’ve been more emphatic as a number of good chances were squandered but overall it was a satisfactory afternoon’s work from Dean Thomas’ side.
At Latimer Park, the Poppoies got off to the perfect start as they went in front as early as the first minute when Muzvimbiri converted a cross from Jake Newman.
The advantage was doubled midway through the half when Ash Fuller’s free-kick was headed home by defender Chris Logan in the 24th minute.
Newman missed a pair of one on one opportunities and Muzvimbiri fired over the bar as the home team dominated but no further goals were added before the break.
This is how it remained in the second period as the Poppies continued to stay in control of proceedings but although they didn’t do any more damage, they were rarely troubled by Chertsey and were able to close the game out comfortably.
Poppies: Horton, Thorpe, Bukasa, Logan, Eze, Kinniburgh, Hamilton, Jepson, Newman (sub, Akubuine), Muzvimbiri (sub, Joseph), Fuller. Subs: Gooding, Dent, Piercewright.
