Picture will be clearer but Poppies are staying focused

Thomas Baillie insists Kettering Town will stay focused on the job even though the picture at the top of the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central table will become clearer this week.

The Poppies remain 14 points clear at the top of the table after claiming a 2-2 draw at Uxbridge at the weekend.

Aylesbury moved into second place thanks to a 3-0 win over Bedworth United and play their game in hand on Kettering against Egham Town tomorrow (Tuesday) night.

If Aylesbury fail to win, then the Poppies will have an opportunity to claim the crown if they win at St Ives Town next weekend and other results go in their favour.

But if the Moles are victorious against Egham, then Kettering will have to wait a little while longer.

But joint-boss Baillie insists the Poppies aren’t concerning themselves with matters elsewhere as they stay focused on getting things wrapped up as soon as possible.

“We have to stay focused on the job because we have another tough game next weekend,” Baillie said.

“I know the manager of St Ives well and he has got them playing well at the moment.

“We prepare every week to go out and try to win the next game and that’s what we will be doing in training tonight (Monday) and on Thursday.

“We won’t be sitting around watching out for the Aylesbury result. If they don’t win the game, fine. If there is an opportunity for us on Saturday then great but we our preparations won’t change.

“If Egham do pull something off at Aylesbury then fair enough. But we will prepare like we always do and ensure we are ready for another big game.”
