Local clubs suffer an Easter Monday washout

Kettering Town, AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Corby Town will have to fit further fixtures into their already packed end-of-season schedules after an Easter Monday washout.

The Poppies saw both matches for the weekend called off as Saturday’s postponement against Weymouth at Latimer Park was followed by today’s clash at King’s Lynn Town being called off this morning following 15mm of rain falling in the space of 10 hours.Diamonds did manage to play on Saturday as a stoppage-time goal from Ryan Robbins earned them a 1-1 draw at Beaconsfield Town.But they were unable to follow that up today with the bank holiday match against Bedford Town being wiped out due to a waterlogged pitch at Hayden Road.And Corby Town’s derby encounter with Stamford also fell victim to the heavy rain, which left the Steel Park pitch unplayable.All three local clubs will now be hoping to return to action during the next week.Kettering travel to Dunstable Town in the Evo-Stik South League Premier on Saturday while Diamonds are also on the road at Northwood in the East division.The Steelmen are due to be back in action in the Evo-Stik League South on Thursday night with a trip to Carlton Town before returning to Steel Park to take on Chasetown on Saturday.
