HILLIER CUP: Poppies dumped out but Diamonds, Steelmen and Ar Tarn go through

Holders Kettering Town were dumped out of the NFA Hillier Senior Cup as Cogenhoe United claimed a 2-1 first-round success at Latimer Park.

A much-changed Poppies team went in front through Callum Milne but the Future Lions United Counties League Premier Division team levelled after an hour thanks to Alex Lowery’s close-range finish.

And the Cooks won it at the death as Ryan Dove secured his team’s place in the next round.

There were no such problems for AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Corby Town, who also made changes but managed to progress.

Diamonds won 2-0 at Peterborough Northern Star with Liam Dolman marking his 200th appearance for the club by scoring the second goal after Jack Bowen had given them the lead.

The Steelmen were comfortable 3-0 winners at Whitworth thanks to goals from Dennis Nkrumah, Jake Bettles and Joel Carta.

Desborough Town are also through to the next stage after they edged out UCL rivals Daventry Town 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out after the two teams had been locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Wellingborough Town travel to Brackley Town Saints in their first-round match tonight (Wednesday) while Rothwell Corinthians head to ON Chenecks for their tie.
