James Clifton is hoping Kettering Town can make it a hat-trick of home wins this week when they take on Aylesbury at Latimer Park tomorrow (Saturday).
The Poppies have bounced back from the defeats they suffered at Barton Rovers and Uxbridge with respective 4-0 and 4-1 home victories over Ashford Town (Middx) and St Ives Town this week.
The former Brackley Town right-back, who has been a big hit with the Poppies fans since arriving, fired his team in front with a fine long-range strike against St Ives last night (Thursday).
And, with Kettering now back to within three points of the play-off places in the Calor League Division One Central, Clifton insists the belief is there in the squad that they can force their way into the top-five.
“We just have to go again on Saturday now,” Clifton said.
“We need to take nine points after dropping six in those two away games.
“Even after the two defeats we believed we could get in there. Other teams will drop points along the way.
“All we can do is look after ourselves, keep performing and keep winning.”
Clifton was delighted to get on target last night and he was happy with the way the evening panned out as the Poppies finished St Ives off in style with a strong second-half performance.
He added: “It took a while to get going, we made a few changes from the other night.
“It was nice to get the goal to get us going and we never really looked back after that.
“The ball sat up nicely for me and it went straight in the bottom corner. A few of the lads thought it had gone wide but I knew it was in.
“We pressed a bit higher up the pitch in the second half, the strikers started chasing the defenders a bit more and we were able to win the ball higher up.
“That gave us the chance to really get at their goal and finish the game off.”
