Jon Challinor is relaxed about his contract situation at Kettering Town.
The midfielder reported back for pre-season having finished the last campaign with the Poppies and has found himself in an anchoring role in the first two games of the Blue Square Bet Premier season.
Challinor is currently playing on a non-contract basis but he is hopeful that will change.
And, as Kettering prepare for the long trek to Gateshead tomorrow, Challinor is just hoping he can retain his place in the starting line-up.
“I came back in pre-season and I didn’t want to go anywhere else after finishing the last campaign here,” the 30-year-old said.
“I am confident in my ability and I thought I would be able to get something here for the start of the season and that’s been proven right.
“I am on non-contract until something gets sorted with the chairman and I am just waiting on that.
“I am very happy. I have started the first two games which is down to other players not being available. But I would like to think I have taken my chance and hopefully keep my place.”
Challinor, meanwhile, believes a trip to Gateshead is perfect for the Poppies tomorrow.
The Tynesiders have started the season in superb form with back-to-back wins over Kidderminster Harriers and Mansfield Town while Kettering slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Stockport County on Tuesday having opened with a home victory over Newport County.
“Every game in the first month of the season is going to be tough and they are already on a good run, I think that makes it perfect for us,” Challinor added.
“I am sure everyone is doubting us again after Tuesday night but we just have to concentrate on the game and get three points.
“That sort of result on Tuesday has probably hit us at the right time. No-one should be getting carried away at this stage and that would be the case if we had won both matches.”
