Harris hopes a '˜blip' is over as Diamonds face bottom markers

The midfielder grabbed his first goal of the season last weekend when he opened the scoring during the 2-2 draw at Northwood.

It proved to be a point gained for Andy Peaks’ side as Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central leaders Chalfont St Peter suffered a 4-1 home defeat to St Ives Town.

It means Diamonds go into this weekend’s home clash just two points behind the table-toppers with two games in hand.

It has been a tricky period for Diamonds as defeats to Chalfont and Egham Town before Christmas were followed by a win at Bedford Town and last weekend’s draw with an abandoned clash against Arlesey Town and a postponement in between.

But Harris, who has made over 120 appearances for the club is hoping the sticky spell is now over.

“You would like to think that we have been through our blip,” he said.

“We had the defeat at Chalfont and we followed that with another against Egham and the lads were a bit down after those.

“But we had a good win at Bedford on Boxing Day and there was a bit of a break after that. What we need now is a run of games and hopefully get back to winning.

“And it would be nice to get the goals flowing again because they have been a bit hard to come by just recently.

“You can’t take anything for granted in this league and we just have to concentrate on getting some more points.”

Harris was pleased to break his duck for the campaign at Northwood last weekend.

Diamonds earned a point thanks to Tom Lorraine’s second-half header after the hosts had hit back to lead 2-1 after Connor Kennedy was sent off for a professional foul in the first half.

And, given that they had a numerical disadvantage for 55 minutes, Harris felt it was a positive outcome in the end.

He added: “I don’t pop up very often!

“It was nice to get the goal though and it was a great ball in from Shawn (Richards). It’s always good to score.

“The manager (Andy Peaks) watched them beforehand and we knew it was going to be a tough test against a side who moved the ball round well.

“We played quite well and then young Connor was sent off after he had started the game impressively.

“It was backs to the walls at times but I think we were all really pleased to take a point.”
