The move represents a step down a division for Gyasi, who was one of the stars of last season’s promotion push at Hayden Road.

He has been a regular for Diamonds in the Evo-Stik League South Premier Division Central but has now opted to drop down into the Division One Central with the Eagles.

Boss Andy Peaks said: “I’m really disappointed to lose Joel, he was great for us last year and whilst he missed most of pre-season I felt he was just starting to find some form recently.

“Bedford made him a better offer and he has decided to drop down a level to take that.

“When players are looking to push themselves at a higher level they always go with my blessing and would always be welcome back.”

Gyasi played 64 games in two spells for Diamonds and featured in five of their eight league games so far this season.

Peaks also confirmed both Cameron Gilchrist and Ty Ward have been given the chance to go and find new clubs.

Both players joined Diamonds in pre-season but Gilchrist has recently been getting matches at AFC Hinckley while Ward has found first-team opportunities hard to come by.

And boss Peaks said: “Cameron has been playing at Hinckley recently and it’s been good for him to go and get games elsewhere.

“It’s a similar situation with Ty. He is looking at other options because I can’t guarantee him anything here.”

Blaize Punter and Callum Westwood both missed last weekend’s game at Needham Market for disciplinary reasons but both were back in training with the squad this week.

Dan Clifton is also set to be back in contention after a back problem but Jack Ashton remains sidelined with a knee injury.

Diamonds, meanwhile, are celebrating the annual ‘Non-League Day’ on Saturday by making their clash with Barwell at Hayden Road a ‘Pay What You Want’ fixture.

Supporters will be able to donate what they like to the club when coming through the turnstiles, instead of the usual matchday prices. Season tickets will be valid as usual with all other supporters being able to take up the offer.

Free chips will also be available for fans but stocks are limited so people are advised to get there early to avoid disappointment.
