Ground work can all be done at Poppies

The Poppies have enjoyed an encouraging first few months of the campaign in the Evo-Stik South League Premier and are among the frontrunners in the race for the title and the play-off places.

There is, of course, plenty of work for Marcus Law and his players to do to give themselves a shot at promotion and their bid continues with a trip to Frome Town tomorrow (Saturday).

But should the season end in glory, club president Samuel doesn’t expect there to be too many issues to resolve to bring the Burton Latimer ground up to standard.

Samuel this week confirmed the club have now signed a 25-year lease at Latimer Park while they will continue to pursue a permanent move back to the town.

And he insists any work that needs to be done should the Poppies secure a return to the National League system this season “can all be done”.

“There is a little bit of work to do, funnily enough not a great amount,” Samuel, who is also a director of the club, said.

“We have to, within a certain time period, have seats in stands. We have three stands at the moment and ideally, to meet the requirements, we need to have two with a certain number of seats.

“But it can all be done so there is no real issue with us being promoted should we be successful.

“There is the means to do and the ability to do it and we would meet the criteria."
