A recent members’ vote saw the majority vote for the custom design kit that will allow fans up to 22 letters or numbers to fill a space on the shirt.

The club are also still looking for a new main shirt sponsor after Auto Windscreens ended their deal.

But the idea for a shirt, which will allow fans to get further involved has been welcomed by bosses at Hayden Road.

Chairman Ralph Burditt said: “This excellent suggestion from a supporter is exactly the kind of creative idea which the club needs at this challenging time and offers fans an opportunity to quite literally be part of the team taking the field each week.

“I hope this will appeal both to those watching from within the ground as well as those from far afield who can't get to games regularly.”

Commercial director John Gregory added: “Due to Covid-19, Auto Windscreens advised they would not be taking up their second and final year option as main club shirt sponsor.

“To meet our budgetary needs, the search to find a new sponsor has become a priority.

“The launch of our new custom design kits allowing fans names to be woven into the print of the shirt is attracting interest throughout our fanbase and within the wider football community.

“I hope the newly designed shirts and our marketing reach will now attract a new main club shirt sponsor. It will certainly give them a unique opportunity to promote their brand and company at a highly cost- effective package.”

And manager Andy Peaks said: “It is a fantastic initiative, to have your name on the shirts worn by the players every game is a great idea, it helps the club financially and I fully back it.

“I am sure most supporters will jump at the chance to put their name on a bit of history.”

Fans have until the end of June to secure their spot on the shirts as well as pre-ordering the kids while the club have also launched a number package options.

They are ‘Custom Bronze’ (a 2020/21 shirt plus your name in the shirt) for £100, ‘Custom Silver’ (presentation/gift package with the shirt in an embossed presentation box with a squad signed AFCRD lithograph) for £120 and ‘Custom Gold’ (shirt will be supplied in a wooden presentation frame and include a squad signed AFCRD lithograph) for £300.
