The United Counties League Premier Division local derby between Wellingborough Town and Rothwell Corinthians tonight (Tuesday) has been postponed.

Wellingborough confirmed on social media this morning that the step has been taken after it was revealed that an Oadby Town player has tested positive for Covid-19 after the Doughboys claimed a 3-1 victory at the Leicestershire club on the opening day of the season at the weekend.

In a statement on their Twitter account, the Doughboys said: “Our match tonight against Rothwell has been postponed as a precaution.

“We have been informed an Oadby player from our last fixture has had a positive COVID test.

“Best wishes to the player and all at Oadby. Not really sure what the next steps are yet.”

The news comes after Burton Park Wanderers’ Division One season was put on hold for two weeks after one of their players had tested positive for the virus, which resulted in them having to withdraw from their first-ever match in the Emirates FA Cup last week.

All other matches involving the local UCL clubs are currently scheduled to go ahead as planned tonight.
