Dolman earns high praise as he joins Diamonds' 200 club
Andy Peaks was full of praise for AFC Rushden & Diamonds captain Liam Dolman after he chalked up a big milestone on Tuesday night.
Dolman made his 200th appearance for the club and marked it by scoring the second goal - his 40th for the club - as they claimed a 2-0 success at Peterborough Northern Star in the first round of the NFA Hillier Senior Cup.
The big centre-half has been a key figure in Diamonds’ success in recent years after he helped the club to promotion from the United Counties League Premier Division and, last season, as they gained elevation to Step 3 for the first time.
And boss Peaks said: “It was a big night for Liam.
“He has been paramount to what we have done over the last few years.
“And he celebrated that milestone in his usual manner. He defended well when he had to and he got a goal at a good time for us as well.
“Everyone knows my thoughts on him.
“He isn’t just a good defender and player for us, he is a decent lad off the pitch and he’s an important character in our dressing-room.
“It’s an excellent achievement to get to 200 appearances and long may it continue.”
Diamonds now have an enforced break from action with no game this weekend following their exit from the Emirates FA Cup at the hands of Hayes & Yeading United just under two weeks ago.
Having lost 2-1 at Royston Town in the Evo-Stik League South Premier Division Central last weekend, the focus for Peaks and his players to try to get back to winning ways in the league when they host St Ives Town at Hayden Road a week on Saturday.
That work starts now but Peaks was pleased to see his team get a win under their belts in the county competition in midweek.
“It was a good workout and a good result at the end of the day,” Peaks added.
“It was important to finish on a high because we now have a break before we play again.
“It’s frustrating that we don’t have a game this weekend after we went out of the FA Cup but we will be working hard on the training ground.
“But now we are planning for St Ives a week on Saturday and we will be ready for that.”
