Andy Peaks insists AFC Rushden & Diamonds will be ready to go again when they head into one of their biggest tests of the season so far tomorrow (Tuesday) night.

Having dumped Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division side Coalville Town out of the Buildbase FA Trophy with a 1-0 success at the Dog & Duck on Saturday, Diamonds are now turning their attention towards a trip to second-placed Spalding United as they get back to Division One South action.

Diamonds are now unbeaten in six matches in all competitions and haven’t been beaten in the league since the opening week of the season.

But Peaks knows his team are in for a stern test of their credentials when they head to Spalding, with whom they crossed swords in the United Counties League not so long ago.

“It’s a really tough game,” the Diamonds boss said.

“They are going really well and they are a strong team, we know that.

“They are as good as any team we have had watched so far. We will dust ourselves off and we will be ready for it.”

Diamobnds’ squad is looking a lot healthier with the injury list now almost clear with the exception of Ross Oulton (knee).

And Peaks also believes his most recent signing, Ben Ford, will have a key role to play in the weeks ahead after he made his debut as a second-half substitute at the weekend.

“We have been looking at Ben for a little while and he’s another one who can play in different positions, predominantly the left side of a four,” Peaks added.

“He’s a good footballer and we have got a lot of games coming up so we are going to need a lot of bodies.

“He’s another good addition and he has slotted in quite nicely.”
