Diamonds must shake themselves up, says furious boss Peaks

Andy Peaks was far from happy as AFC Rushden & Diamonds were beaten 1-0 at Potters Bar Town

Diamonds went down to a second successive defeat as Chris Doyle’s first-half goal earned Potters Bar Town a 1-0 home victory.

Peaks’ team remain on top of the table but it’s just goal difference that separates them from second-placed Kings Langley while Egham Town and Royston Town are now right in contention as they sit four and five points adrift but with four and three games in hand respectively.

And the Diamonds boss insists his players must “shake themselves up” as they have just nine games left to try to secure automatic promotion.

“We just weren’t good enough,” he said.

“I went to watch them (Potters Bar) in the week and they are a straightforward 4-4-2 team who work really hard and I told our boys that they would have to match them. But it didn’t happen.

“It is another massive three points dropped. We didn’t create enough chances and we didn’t look like scoring which is a real concern.

“Things just weren’t right from front to back and some of the players looked like they were feeling sorry for themselves after last week’s defeat (against Kings Langley).

““I am certain there will still be a lot of points dropped in this league before the end of the season and we have got a lot to play for.

“But they have got to shake themselves up and I have got to have a look at what I have and see if I need to make a change or two.”

Diamonds are back in action next weekend when they entertain Barton Rovers at the Dog & Duck.
