Andy Peaks believes AFC Rushden & Diamonds will go into their home clash with league leaders Tamworth tomorrow (Saturday) with “absolutely nothing to lose”.

Diamonds will be hoping to return to match action after two weeks of inactivity having been without a game last weekend before their encounter with third-placed Peterborough Sports was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch on Tuesday.

Another big test awaits this weekend, however, with Tamworth arriving at Hayden Road with a two-point advantage at the top of the BetVictor Southern League Premier Central.

Diamonds remain just outside of the play-off places on goal difference with 14 games of the regular season to go.

And while there is plenty for his team to play for, boss Peaks believes there is no pressure on his players.

“It was really disappointing the game was off on Tuesday, I was looking forward to it after not having a match for a long while and the boys were fit and raring to go,” the Diamonds manager said.

“But we now have to be ready to play Tamworth and we are on a really good run and going into it with absolutely nothing to lose.

“The table doesn’t lie at this time of the season and Tamworth are there for a reason.

“They are a really good team and we will have to be at our absolute best to get something out of it.

“But I believe we can get something from it and we can embrace the challenge.

“These are the sort of games I look forward to.

“With the last home match against Redditch who had lost a few beforehand, it was a banana skin and I never really relish that sort of game.

“But I am really looking forward to this one. Tamworth have got an unbelievable squad and that is summed up by us being able to have Greg Kaziboni here for a month on loan because he couldn’t get in there.

“That tells you what they are all about but I am expecting a good game in front of a big crowd and hopefully we can get a positive result to keep us in the mix.”

Diamonds are set to have a new face in their squad after Peaks moved to sign young Oxford United forward Fabio Lopes on loan.

“He has a good pedigree and he is very well thought of at Oxford,” Peaks added.

“We have got a good little link with them, which is important for us.

“We are always looking and Fabio fitted the bill for us.”

Diamonds will still be without Ben Acquaye for this weekend as he serves the last of a three-match ban.
