Diamonds boss Peaks revels in a '˜massive win'

Goals from Andy Hall, Jon Stevenson, Shawn Richards and Claudiu Hoban secured the points and ensured Diamonds stayed on top of the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central.

And it proved to be a good day to claim another win as, aside from Chalfont St Peter who remain a point behind them from a game more, the three other teams immediately below Diamonds at the start of play dropped points.

But, despite seeing other results going in their favour, Peaks was keen to focus on his own team as they followed up their 8-1 demolition of North Greenford United by inflicting just a second home league defeat on the Moles.

And the Diamonds boss was as pleased with the performance as he was with the final outcome.

“I think it’s a massive win and I am delighted,” he said.

“It is a tough place to go, they have one of the best home records and we went there and performed very well.

“I thought 2-1 flattered them at half-time. We played some good stuff and they scored out of nothing, which was frustrating.

“We knew they would have a go at us after the break but we defended well and went 3-1 up.

“They got another back and that could have made things nervy but we went straight down the other end and finished it off.

“This was a good test for us. But I have said all along that if we play to our capabilities and work hard then no-one in this league worries me.

“We are in a great position and hopefully we can stay there.

“I will always say it’s about us and what we do but you do, of course, have a look at the other results.

“We have picked up a good victory and we have come back into the dressing-room and seen that some teams have dropped points.

“But I am really only interested in us. I always say that if you away from home against a top-eight team in this league then you would take a point.

“To get three at Aylesbury is a great result. But to play the way we did, makes it even better.”
