Diamonds' blip is a concern for boss Peaks

Having suffered back-to-back defeats to fellow high-fliers Hayes & Yeading United and Hartley Wintney, Diamonds were held to a 1-1 draw by Uxbridge with Spencer Weir-Daley’s first goal for the club being cancelled out by Cole Brown’s effort 11 minutes from full-time.

Diamonds’ lead at the top of the Evo-Stik South League East is now just three points with a trio of teams snapping away at their heels.

A crucial Easter weekend now awaits with Peaks’ team travelling to fellow contenders Beaconsfield Town on Saturday before they host local rivals Bedford Town on Monday afternoon.

And, despite the recent disappointment, the Diamonds boss knows his team can’t afford to feel sorry for themselves.

“It’s disappointing because we were hoping it would be a game we could bounce back in after the setbacks we have had against good teams,” Peaks said.

“It was an opportunity to get three points and get back up and running and we haven’t done it.

“Credit to Uxbridge, they made it difficult for us but we weren’t good enough.

“We got the goal at a good time and we had a little spell afterwards when you hoped we would get a second one.

“I was pleased for Spencer, he’s come in at a tricky time but he got his goal and he is up and running and I thought he contributed really well.

“But there was always a chance they would have a spell themselves and that’s what happened.

“Once they got their goal, we found it hard to break them down.

“I was expecting better than that, we have set higher standards than that and it was disappointing overall.

“It’s very concerning, we have picked one point up in nine and now we are going into an away game at one of the other teams up there so it’s a difficult spell.

“But we can’t feel sorry for ourselves, we have got to get back on it and start picking some points up again.”
