Corinthians have a '˜spring in their step' for tough tests

Corinthians suffered a last-gasp 2-1 defeat at Holbeach United in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division last weekend but hit back with a 1-0 success at Kirby Muxloe in midweek.

Now they are gearing up to take on Eynesbury Rovers at Sergeants Lawn tomorrow (Saturday) while a trip to take on runaway leaders Peterborough Sports awaits in just over a week’s time.

And joint-boss Sparrow is now keen to see what his team can do against the top sides in the division.

“It was important to bounce back because we were really disappointed after last Saturday,” he said.

“We produced a dominant second-half performance and then lost the game at the end.

“It was an ugly game at Kirby and we won it the ugly way, we really rolled our sleeves up and got on with it.

“And it has given us a bit of a spring in our step going into some hard games.

“We’ve got Eynesbury who are second and then we have got Peterborough Sports next weekend.

“So it was important we got three points on Tuesday and it has taken the pressure off us.

“We can go into these games with a bit of confidence, we can give it a really good go and see if we can upset a few people.”

Chris Bradshaw has urged his Desborough Town team not to waste the good work they have done in the first half of the UCL Premier Division campaign.

Ar Tarn have been in superb form since the season started and, having suffered a home reverse to Yaxley last Tuesday, they bounced back with a 1-0 success at Peterborough Northern Star and a 3-0 home victory over Oadby Town at the Waterworks Field in midweek.

Desborough, who sit in third place in the table and are also in the quarter-finals of the UCL Knockout Cup, are now preparing for a trip to seventh-placed Newport Pagnell Town this weekend.

And Bradshaw is hoping his team can keep things going in the second half of the season as he bids to establish them as the “best team in the county at this level”.

The Ar Tarn boss said: “We have had the best possible reaction from the Yaxley game.

“It wasn’t pretty at Peterborough Northern Star but we kept a clean sheet and got the goal and then we played very well in the second half on Tuesday.

“We know it will be tough at Newport Pagnell but, at the same time, we have to start believing and accepting that we are one of the teams who are being chased now.

“When we play teams who are fifth or sixth, it’s now a case of them being after our scalp.

“We are halfway through the season and we have 49 points and at this stage last year, the club were keen just to hit the 55-point at the end of the campaign.

“What we have to do now is make sure we sustain it in the second half of the season and make sure all the good work we have done doesn’t go to waste.

“If we can repeat what we have done then we will beat our targets and we will be going a long way to making Desborough the best team in the county at this level and establishing ourselves as one of the best teams in the UCL. And that’s been my target all along.”

Stuart Goosey insists there is a positive feeling surrounding Wellingborough Town ahead of two matches in the next week.

The Doughboys claimed a 2-2 draw with Harrowby United last weekend and are now preparing to face two teams immediately above them in the UCL Premier Division table.

They head to Peterborough Northern Star tomorrow before hosting ON Chenecks next Tuesday night.

“It was another point on the board last weekend but we were disappointed it wasn’t three,” assistant-manager Goosey said.

“But we are feeling positive going into the weekend and hopefully we can perform well and then take it into next Tuesday as well.

“We are going up against a couple of teams who are just above us in the table. And I think there is definitely six points up for grabs for us to take.”
