Joint-bosses Jim Scott and Shaun Sparrow are ready to lead Corinthians into the Buildbase FA Vase second-round clash with Tring Athletic at Sergeants Lawn.

Corinthians, who have had an impressive season so far and sit in seventh place in the United Counties League Premier Division, have already surpassed any previous efforts by reaching this stage of the competition.

But Scott is keen to ensure it doesn’t end here.

“The club has never been this far before and it shows how far we have come,” he said.

“But that doesn’t mean we can say ‘well done’ to ourselves and go out of the competition now. We will be very disappointed if we don’t make a good attempt at getting through tomorrow.

“Tring are similar to us. They are a top-six side in their division but we believe they are beatable and I am sure they will think the same about us.

“The cup competitions are for the players and our boys are buzzing for the game.

“A lot of planning has gone into the match and it is up to us to go and give it our best shot.”

Corinthians go into the clash in good form after their 5-0 victory over Boston Town last weekend was followed by a 1-0 success against Oadby Town on Tuesday as
Mapeo Mendes’ first-half free-kick proved decisive.

And, despite the current focus being on the Vase, Scott is hoping his team can maintain a lofty position in the league table in the weeks to come.

“It’s been a good week so far, although our performances probably haven’t been as good as the scorelines we have produced,” the joint-manager added.

“We weren’t at our best on Tuesday night but I suppose it is pleasing that we still had enough to get the result we wanted.

“We know we have a big game on Saturday but we won’t forget that the league is the main order of business.

“We want to try to stay up there with the top six. We want to be in the mix all the way through the season.”
