The Steelmen have enjoyed a superb run of form in 2017 that has given them a huge opportunity to avoid a second successive relegation.

But the huge effort that has been put in over the past couple of months now appears to be taking its toll on the squad.

Full-back Miles Smith is definitely ruled out of the long trek north after suffering a hamstring injury during last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Nantwich Town while young frontman Andrew Osei-Bonsu, who is at Steel Park on a work experience deal, has been recalled by Milton Keynes Dons for this Saturday.

Mills also revealed the likes of Stefan Moore, Connor Kennedy, Ryan Bell and Aaron Brown, who have been playing on injuries, are all rated at “50-50” to be fit in time for the weekend.

With defender Jamie Tank leaving the club to join AFC Rushden & Diamonds, it has left the Steelmen short on numbers.

But Mills looks set to go with what he’s got for the time being at least.

“The squad is looking a bit thin at the moment and it is a concern,” the Corby boss said.

“I had a phone call with the chairman about the situation and we are going to re-assess it again after the weekend.

“They are injuries that will clear up but we have a few who are struggling and will need a late decision made on them.

“We will see how things look towards the end of this week and then look again after the game.

“Regardless of who is available, I expect every player to go out there and give it their best shot.”

There was some good news for Corby yesterday as Boston United left-back Courtney Wildin had his loan stay at Steel Park extended until the end of the season
