Corby have some 'question marks' despite a big fightback

After taking the lead through Elliot Sandy, the Steelmen looked like they were heading for their first league defeat of the season after Dunstable Town moved into a 3-1 advantage.

However, goals from Jordon Crawford and Greg Ling secured a 3-3 draw for Kinniburgh’s team, who are now the only unbeaten team in the division.

But the manager was far from happy with certain aspects of his team’s performance.

“There are question marks now because we have started the season really well and it’s about consistency,” Kinniburgh said.

“We have got a young team with a couple of older heads round about it but these boys have to grow up quickly.

“When you are in a bit of a spell where you have not picked up wins it’s that bit of grit and determination that you want to get over the line.

“We have got it but I don’t think we have shown it at certain times.

“We do have resolve and we have it in abundance going forward. We have some of the best attacking players in the league.

“But do they have it in the defensive side? That’s the big question mark.

“We have got to have a mindset where we are solid and compact and hard to beat while being excellent and exciting going forward.

“The three goals we have conceded are poor and that’s six goals in two games, which is not good enough. We have scored five goals in the last two games and not won one of them.

“If we are going to be challenging at the top end of the league, they have got to change and I have got to have a look at it. I have got to make sure we can turn it around.”

The Steelmen are back in action on Wednesday night when they take on leaders Bromsgrove Sporting at Steel Park in their biggest game of the season so far.

Bromsgrove suffered their first league defeat of the campaign as they were thrashed 5-1 at Bedford Town yesterday.

And with Corby five points behind the leaders with two games in hand, Kinniburgh knows just how important the midweek showdown is.

“The league is shaping and there’s probably another three or four games before it really shapes up,” he added.

“We have got three of the teams who will be there or thereabouts in the next few games.

“This is where the mental toughness of this team has to come out it’s why I have to ask these questions.

“We have got a huge game on Wednesday night, we have got targets and we are on track to do it. But we can’t keep slipping up and we can’t keep dropping points.

“We have to get back to Steel Park on Wednesday and show we have a bit of resolve and show we are hard to beat while having that bit of excitement going forward.”
