Confidence is high as Diamonds gear up for Nuneaton

Andy Peaks believes his AFC Rushden & Diamonds players will be full of confidence as they gear up for a trip to Nuneaton Borough tomorrow (Saturday).

Despite having Ben Acquaye sent-off after just three minutes, Diamonds battled back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw with fellow BetVictor Southern League Premier Central rivals Hednesford Town at Hayden Road on Tuesday night with Ryan Dove scoring the late and well-deserved equaliser.

That made it six games without defeat for Peaks’ team, who now face another tough test against a Nuneaton side who are also in the hunt for a top-five finish.

And the Diamonds boss believes his team will need to show the same sort of spirit if they are to maintain their impressive form.

“We will take that point because Hednesford are a tough team to play against when you have 11 men on the pitch, let alone 10,” Peaks said.

“Getting the point the way we did should give us even more confidence and I think everyone could see the spirit we have in the group.

“But we are going to need all that again tomorrow because Nuneaton are another good team who are good at home.

“They are a big club with a good following and they are looking to get into the play-offs themselves.

“It’s another big test but you don’t get an easy afternoon anywhere.

“We will prepare properly and we will go and give it our best shot.”

Peaks is expecting to have near enough a full squad to choose from for the weekend with Greg Kaziboni and Matty Slinn both set to be fit after missing the midweek clash.
