Clean sheet pleases Wright as Steelmen start with '˜fair point'

Neither side was able to find a breakthrough at Steel Park as the Steelmen’s first game of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division campaign ended in a 0-0 draw.

Corby carved out the better openings with Callum Ball hitting the outside of the post with a free-kick before missing a couple of late opportunities.

But Wright was left content as his new-look side kicked off with a clean sheet.

“We went with three at the back and I think it was pretty clear that we were going to try to work at building solid foundations,” Wright said.

“When you concede 93 league goals last year and get relegated and concede at least three goals every game, nine times out of 10 in the first 15 minutes of a game, I think it was a big priority for me over the summer.

“So I am delighted for the boys that they have kept a clean sheet. I would have liked to have gone away nicking a 1-0 win and we had the chances to do it.

“Bally (Callum Ball) has hit the post and he has had two chances that, by his standards, he will be kicking himself about.

“But Aidan Grant has made a couple of point-blank saves as well.

“I think one goal was always going to decide it but I think a draw was a fair point.”

The only absentee for the Steelmen was summer signing Femi Orenuga and Wright confirmed the attacking player has a “chance” of featuring in Tuesday’s clash at Halesowen Town but is more likely to return when they head to Whitby Town next weekend.

“I think every Corby Town fan has seen during the summer that he is a livewire and he’s going to be a big player for us,” the manager added.

“To miss him and it be the way it was with a 0-0, he could be the final piece of the puzzle.

“So we have a very good player to come back. He’s got a chance for Tuesday but, more realistically, for next Saturday.”
