MANAGER Aidy Boothroyd has warned Cobblers fans that it may be the final days of pre-season before they see any more new signings unveiled at Sixfields.
The Town boss will be bringing in at least three new players ahead season-opener against Cardiff City on August 14, but he hinted this week that he and the club’s fans may have to show a little patience to ensure the right people are brought into the club.
And he also admitted that he will have no qualms about leaving those signings until late in the day.
Boothroyd has targeted a new goalkeeper and at least one new central defender, and he said: “I have three or four loan possibilities, and three or four seasoned professionals that I am favouring at the moment.
“But the way that it works is that if you are going to get a loan player, you generally have to wait until they have had their pre-season and their club has sorted out their squad for the season before they decide what they are going to do.
“So we may have to be a bit patient on that one.”
And he added: “The team that is put out against Chelsea on Saturday, and even Derby and West Ham, won’t necessarily be the team that is going to start the season.
“We are still two or three short, but that is what pre-season is for.
“I am really pleased with what we have done so far, but Rome wasn’t built in a day.
“It may take a little bit time to get those final pieces right, but I am comfortable and happy to go up until the start of the season.”
The Cobblers play their first home pre-season friendly of the summer tomorrow when Chelsea Under-21s are the visitors to Sixfields (ko 3pm).
