Big total will be needed for Corby to survive

Corby Town travel to Rushall Olympic tonight (Tuesday) as they continue their fight for survival after returning to winning ways with a comfortable 3-0 success over bottom side Skelmersdale United at the weekend.

The Steelmen are two points adrift of Marine, who sit just above the relegation zone, while Frickley Athletic and Halesowen Town are a further two points clear.

With Corby now having 10 games to go, thoughts are turning to what might be required to secure their safety.

Last season, Mickleover Sports survived with 46 points but in the two previous 46-match seasons, it took returns of 50 and 49 to keep teams in the division.

And Steelmen assistant-manager Bell said: “With the way the results have been going, it could be an all-time high number of points that a team gets relegated with.

“It was 46 to keep you up last season but I am not sure that will be enough this year.

“It’s up for grabs and there are a few teams involved in it. There are teams checking over their shoulders.

“But from our point of view, we just have to keep doing what we have been doing since the turn of the year.”

Corby have suffered just two league defeats in 2017 and Bell is hoping that good form can continue this evening as they take on a Rushall side who topped the table at one stage at the back end of last year, including when they ran out 4-1 winners at Steel Park.

He added: “Even when they came here and won 4-1 and were top of the league, I felt we were unlucky in that game. We played well for long periods

“They have had a few bad results of late and we have picked up so it bodes well for a good game.

“With the form we are in, we have to go to Rushall confident of getting something.

“With the situation we are in, we have to go into every game looking for a win.”
