Big games ahead as Corby enter 'key part' of the season

The Steelmen take on Dunstable Town for the third time this season when they make the trip to Bedfordshire in the Evo-Stik League South Division One Central this weekend.

Corby fought back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 with their league rivals before beating them 4-0 away from home in the preliminary round of the Emirates FA Cup.

This time, there will be points at stake while the Steelmen will be defending their unbeaten league record as they bid to maintain their fine start.

Corby currently sit in second place, six points behind Bromsgrove Sporting who are the visitors to Steel Park in a huge clash next Wednesday night.

The Steelmen have already beaten Bromsgrove this season, knocking their rivals out of the Buildbase FA Trophy.

But Corby’s Trophy hopes were ended at the hands of Yaxley last Saturday as Kinniburgh’s side slumped to a 3-2 home defeat.

The manager was left fuming with the manner of that loss but he has been quick to switch his attention back to league business.

And, with plenty of big games ahead of them, Kinniburgh believes his team have an opportunity to stamp their mark on the division.

“We have got the ability and the tactical awareness to go and win games,” the Corby boss said.

“We have already beaten Bromsgrove and Dunstable this season but the question now is can we go and do it again and again?

“We are approaching a key part of the season as far as I am concerned.

“Over the next few weeks leading up to Christmas, we have got to play the teams at the top.

“This spell isn’t going to make or break our season but we have got to play the likes of Bromsgrove and Thame at home and we go to Peterborough Sports as well.

“It’s a big part of the season and we need to challenge ourselves.

“If we can come through it reasonably unscathed then we are going to be in an excellent place.

“We are now out of all the knockout competitions apart from the Hillier Cup.

“We have had a couple of good runs but we will be judged on what we do in the league and now we must focus on it.”

The Steelmen have arranged a league game for a week on Saturday following their FA Trophy exit and they will now take on Aylesbury at Steel Park.
