'˜Big decisions' for Wright as Steelmen slip closer to the drop

Tommy Wright admitted to feeling "deflated" after Corby Town's 3-0 defeat at AFC Telford United

The Steelmen were well beaten 3-0 at AFC Telford United to leave them rock-bottom of the table and six points adrift of safety with just eight games remaining.

Corby take on second-from-bottom Hednesford Town at Steel Park on Saturday in what now looks like a make or break fixture.

But boss Wright has conceded the club’s position now looks “bleak” and he said that this is now a “massive weekend” for him.

“I feel really deflated and I am fed up,” the Steelmen boss said.

“I said to the players after the game that they can start taking responsibility and they were quiet as mice so it looks as though I will be carrying the can for them.

“It’s looking very bleak for us. We haven’t won enough games of football this season and now, with eight to go and teams winning around us, we are probably going to have to win at least five, maybe six. The way we are playing, I can’t see us doing that.

“It’s the deadline for signings on Thursday so I will have to sit down with the chairman and make some decisions.

“I don’t want to feel like this. This is going to be a big weekend for me.”

Wright felt his team were in the game during the first half at the New Bucks Head and, although he was furious with the penalty decision that allowed Telford to go 2-0 up after the break, he described his team’s second-half display as “a non-event”.

“For 30 minutes we were in a game of football,” he added.

“But then we have made a mistake on the ball, it’s got taken off us and they have scored.

“Up until half-time I felt we could get back into it, we had a couple of openings that we didn’t take full advantage of.

“But the second-half performance was pretty much a non-event. After the second goal, it was game over and it was no surprise they got the third.

“The penalty decision was poor. There was a foul on Ellis Myles in the build-up but he didn’t go down and the he has ended up giving the penalty away.

“But the decision was embarrassing, it was the softest penalty you will ever see.”
