Foden delight as Corbisiero joins the Saints’ Gardens party

Ben Foden says ‘world-class’ prop Alex Corbisiero is exactly the kind of character Saints need in their squad for next season.

Northampton announced on Wednesday that the London Irish and England star would join them this summer.

Corbisiero, who has 18 Test caps to his name, will be a replacement for Racing Metro-bound loosehead Soane Tonga’uiha.

And full-back Foden says his international team-mate will be a great signing for Saints.

“He’s a good character and exactly the kind of guy we want at the club,” said Foden. “He’s a positive guy.

“He’s had his injury problems but he’s a pretty positive guy, a good laugh and a good rapper, so maybe me and him can do a bit of a duet.

“He’s the kind of guy we want at this club.

“He’s world class, he’s been pretty solid for England when he’s taken the field and it will be good to see what he can do here.

“Obviously with (Dorian) West’s guidance we’ll see him used to good effect at this club.”

But while he is relishing the summer arrival of Corbisiero, Foden’s current priority is helping Saints qualify for the Heineken Cup quarter-finals.

They travel to Glasgow today (Sat) knowing only a win and a bonus point will be enough to sneak into a best runners-up spot.

And ahead of the game at Pool 4’s basement side, Foden said: “They haven’t had the sort of Heineken Cup run they’d have liked and they won’t want to go out of the competition not having won a game.

“We know they are a good side, they will put it to us this weekend and with the game being at their place, they will want to get things back on track for their next round of league games.

“For them and us it should make for an interesting game.”
