Five-try Wanderers impress in win at Cambridge University

Vasily Artemyev, Sam Harry, Ben Nutley, Jordan Onojaife and Danny Herriott got on the scoresheet in the comfortable victory at Grange Road.

Cambridge had started strongly, scoring a try in the ninth minute, but they were hampered by a sin-binning 15 minutes later.

The Wanderers immediately took advantage of having the extra man, getting back on terms as good work from Dom Waldouck and Paul Diggin teed up Russian back Artemyev.

And the away side were ahead before the break as young flanker Harry took advantage of a huge maul to find his way over the line.

Fly-half Sam Olver, who was to end the night with seven points to his name, converted as the Wanderers went in 12-5 up at the break.

Cambridge reduced the deficit through a penalty just after half-time, but Nutley was soon on the scoresheet thanks to another gargantuan forward push.

Olver missed the conversion but didn’t take long to add a penalty and the Wanderers were well on top.

They added a fourth try through Onojaife, who took advantage of a second sin-binning of the night for the home side.

Olver converted to make it 27-8 and the Wanderers rounded off a convincing victory when prop Herriott found his way over the line, with Will Hooley adding the extras.

The Wanderers’ next game comes at Franklin’s Gardens as they clash with Gloucester on Monday, October 28 in a must-win ‘A’ League encounter.
