The wing was named man of the match in the 21-13 success, which was earned after going 10-0 down inside the opening 25 minutes.

Scores from James Wilson and Mike Haywood, plus 11 points from the boot of Stephen Myler, got the job done at The Rec.

It means Saints are now nine points clear of second-placed Bath in the race for the Aviva Premiership’s top spot.

And Elliott feels it was the perfect response to a sluggish showing in the previous week’s 15-9 win over London Irish at Franklin’s Gardens.

“We’re top of the league and going into the end of the season that’s where we want to be,” said the 22-year-old.

“We left a few tries out there against London Irish last week but our defence was good and we were all on the same page at Bath.

“We showed what we could do.

“We knew it was going to be a hard game with them being undefeated at The Rec, but we kept calm.”
