Dowson gets rapid Saints reunion in opening night clash at Sixways

Phil Dowson will be reunited with Saints at the first time of asking after his old club were handed a trip to Worcester Warriors on the Aviva Premiership’s opening night.

Dowson, who spent six years at Saints, left Franklin’s Gardens this summer and will help the Warriors adjust to life back in the top flight after promotion from the Championship in May.

Jim Mallinder’s men head to Sixways on Friday, October 16 - the season starts at the Rugby World Cup quarter-final stage - and the game will be televised by BT Sport.

Saints’ second game will be at stadium:mk, with Newcastle Falcons providing the oppositon.

Northampton are using the Milton Keynes venue as the Gardens redevelopment, which will see the new Barwell Stand replace the Sturtridge Pavilion, will not be completed until early November.

Saints’ first game at the new-look Gardens will come against Saracens on the weekend of November 6.

Trips to Sale Sharks and Bath, along with a home game against Gloucester make up the opening six fixtures for Mallinder’s men.

The first east midlands derby of the season will be at Welford Road on the weekend of January 9, with Tigers heading to the Gardens on the weekend of April 16.

Saints will be in action on Boxing Day this year as they travel to the Madejski Stadium to take on London Irish.

Mallinder’s men finish the campaign with a game at Gloucester on the weekend of May 7.
