The wing had not played since last season’s Aviva Premiership play-off semi-final defeat to Harlequins after sustaining an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury.

But he was back in action at Allianz Park, starting at full-back and helping the Wanderers into a 5-3 half-time lead before being replaced.

Ryan Glynn gave the away side the lead at the break with an early try, but Ben Spencer pegged them back with a penalty.

Another Spencer three-pointer just after the break put Sarries ahead, as the Wanderers were hit by James Wilson’s sin-binning.

Spencer missed the chance to extend his side’s lead to four points with a wayward effort from the tee and the Wanderers made him pay, Matt Williams going over for a try.

Replacement fly-half Sam Olver converted, and he added the extras again soon after as Howard Packman grabbed his side’s third try of the game.
