Waller made his debut for Stuart Lancaster’s side on Tuesday morning, impressing in a 38-7 victory against Super Rugby outfit Crusaders.

The Saints prop was handed a call up to the tour of New Zealand on the back of an impressive campaign for his club, which ended with Waller scoring the winning try in the Premiership final.

Waller’s performance against Crusaders wasn’t enough to win him a place in England’s matchday 23 for Saturday’s third and final Test against the All Blacks, but Dickson has been hugely impressed with the 24-year-old and is tipping him to continue his rise to prominence by securing a place in the World Cup picture on home soil next year.

“Alex has been phenomenal all season for Saints and he deserves everything he’s getting,” said Dickson, who is on the replacements bench for the clash against New Zealand.

“He went well on Tuesday on his first England appearance – the scrum went forward, he threw a few cheeky offloads off the deck as well.

“He’s enjoying himself at the moment. After a couple of years behind Soane (Tonga’uiha) at the club, he’s emerged as a real talent and a contender heading forward to the World Cup next year.”
