He was also highlighted as the main man in Saints’ Premiership final victory against the same opponents last May and starred against Bath in the Amlin Challenge Cup showpiece.

Dickson, who made his 200th Saints appearance last Saturday, and Myler are the most consistent half-back pairing in Premiership history.

And the scrum-half is hoping his team-mate can now go on to win more trophies with his club as well as adding to his solitary England cap.

“Stephen puts us around the park really well,” said Dickson.

“He is the heart and soul of the club, he pulls the strings.

“I’ve probably played near enough 100 times with him and he is easy-going.

“He loses his temper now and again, but you’ve just got to tell him to shut up.

“He is an exceptional player and I am praying he has more honours.”
