Dickinson’s delight as Saints youngsters shine in Moseley win

No.8 Dickinson skippered a largely second-string Northampton side to a 38-32 success at Billesley Common.

The likes of Tom Stephenson, George Wacokecoke and Tom Collins got on the scoresheet, while Sam Olver kicked well from the tee.

But the youthful group didn’t have it all their own way as Moseley battled hard.

And Dickinson, who also touched down in the win against the Championship side, was delighted with the fighting spirit his fledgling team-mates showed.

“It was good,” said the former Rotherham forward. “It was quite open in the end. They like to throw it wide as well and they gave us a hard time.

“They know some of our strengths and our weaknesses and it was good.

“Our young players did really well. I like to think some of the older boys wore them down early on, but they did well.

“There was a lot of pace from the youngsters and the boys in the forwards did a great job linking up with the backs, who scored some great tries.”

Dickinson and several other players who did the business at Moseley on Thursday are now preparing for the clash with Edinburgh this evening (Friday).

It’s a quick turnaround but the 28-year-old, who missed the majority of last season with an arm injury, isn’t fazed.

“I’m fresh and ready to go,” said Dickinson. “It’s pre-season and it’s about getting fit and getting some game time.

“Hopefully I’ll get some game time tonight, having got a good bit of recovery after last night’s game.”
