Dickinson and Co head into their final game of the regular season against Wasps on Saturday, knowing they need just a point to earn a home Premiership play-off semi-final.

They will then have some huge games to look forward to, with the semi-final followed by an Amlin Challenge Cup final against Bath a week later, and a possible Premiership showpiece at Twickenham on May 31.

And Dickinson said: “A lot of the guys have been putting it out in meetings that this is it. This is what we play for.

“This is what we set out for when the league started in September.

“We find ourselves here having played really well with the whole squad putting us in this position and now it’s up to us to take this chance.”

But first Saints will focus on facing a Wasps side who pushed them so close back in December.

A last-gasp Stephen Myler penalty earned a vital 17-15 victory at Adams Park, and Dickinson said: “They did push us close.

“It was a tough game down there and typical of this league. Everywhere you go it’s tough.

“They’ve been playing some good rugby, throwing it around, playing a wide game and hopefully we can do a job and concentrate on we want to do and come away with some points.”
