Surgery delay for Northants skipper Peters

Stephen Peters has had surgery on his broken finger delayed

The Northants captain was due to have a metal wire removed from the ring finger of his right hand today (Monday) but his surgeon has decided that another seven days will benefit the healing process.

And while Peters knows that the medical advice has to listened to, he has admitted to a feeling of frustration at the wait.

He said: “I was booked in for today to have the wire out and I’d prepared myself for that.

“The surgeon said, after looking at the X-ray, that he was happy with the level of healing but thought it should have another week.

“I understand that as I don’t want to rush it, but it’s just left me a bit frustrated.”

Even though he has had a setback, Peters isn’t changing th date of his expected return.

He added: “The surgeon doesn’t think that it will delay the date I can be back playing and I’m still looking at the last six Championship games.

“My plan was to travel with the lads to Manchester this week to do some fitness training and have physio on the finger, the first part of my proper return to playing if you like, but that will have to wait.”
