Ripley wants Steelbacks to improve for winner-takes-all Yorkshire clash

David Ripley says there is still room for improvement after seeing his Northants side set up a decisive clash with Yorkshire in the final Royal London One-Day Cup group game tomorrow (Tuesday).

Ripley’s side beat Gloucestershire by four wickets at Wantage Road to move within a point of Yorkshire in the battle for a quarter-final place.

The Steelbacks make the trip up to Leeds knowing one more win will see them into the last eight.

Ripley admitted his side could have been more clinical in closing out Monday’s win, once against suffering a wobble with the bat.

But he is confident that if they can produce an all-round performance, they can get the job done at Headingley.

“It was a bit similar to our last 50 over game against Somerset,” Ripley said. “I always thought we were in control of the game, but we weren’t very clinical in how we finished it.

“So we’ve just talked about that a little bit now, there’s definitely areas we can improve on for tomorrow and I think if we’re going to win tomorrow we’re going to need to be a little bit better than we’ve been in our last two games.

“But we’ve winning games and that’s a nice habit to get into.

“That’s the sign of good competitors, we’ve had luck with injuries where we haven’t been too stretched in one-day cricket and we’ve got some players in form and we’re proving tough to beat.

“Even if we go to tomorrow and someone pulls out something special from Yorkshire, it can happen, but we’re looking to improve our game and if we do so again we’ll be pretty tough to beat.”
