Northamptonshire head coach David Ripley has said that David Willey’s early return from Australia isn’t that big a worry.
The 23-year-old all-rounder’s time with the England Performance Programme has been cut short due to a back injury that will see him return to the County for treatment.
It is an unfortunate blow for Willey, who made a strong impression during the 2013 season, but Ripley thinks that the correct decision has been made.
He said: “It’s not really a concern as he’s a good athlete.
“He had it at the end of the season and it hasn’t really settled down so we need to get to the bottom of what the problem is.
“We’ll have a good luck when he gets back here and decide where we go from there.
“He’s had two scans and an injection into where people thought the problem was but it’s a bit frustrating in that nothing certain has shown up.
“What we don’t want is for it to get worse and David be unable to start next season.”
