No play was possible on the opening day of the LV= County Championship clash betwenn Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire as showers, some of them fairly substantial, meant proceedings didn’t even get as far as the toss.

The square covers were removed on a couple of occasions and play was due to get under way following an early lunch but time and again the rain, which had been forecast, returned to put a spanner in the works.

When play begins, Northamptonshire will field a slightly adjusted line-up with batsman David Sales in line for his first appearance of the season after recovering from a claf injury.

He is expected to replace the out of sorts Kyle Coetzer and the other change will see Maurice Chambers return in place of Olly Stone who has a cracked finger.
