Peters hopes the team he knows shows up against Lancashire

The red rose replaces the white this week and Stephen Peters hopes that isn’t the only change.

An innings and 120-run hammering by Yorkshire took the gloss of the draw secured against champions Durham the week before.

And with Lancashire next up in the LV= County Championship at the County Ground on Sunday, County captain Peters is expecting the real Northamptonshire to stand up.

He said: “We’re a much better side than we showed against Yorkshire.

“I was very disappointed with how we played as it was clearly below par and a very, very poor performance.

“We played against a very strong side who I expect to be up there challenging at the end of the season but that’s not an excuse.

“We’re capable of much better and it’s a good thing for us that we’re playing again this weekend.”

The visitors haven’t had the best of starts themselves with a defeat to Nottinghamshire in their opening outing followed by a fortunate draw last week against Warwickshire where the weather saved them from what looked like a certain loss.

But they will turn up with a side that contains a number of internationals and Peters is well aware of the threat they possess.

He added: “ It’s an interesting time for them having lost their coach but they’re a very good side.

“Their bowling, especially, is strong with the likes of (Glen) Chapple and (Jimmy) Anderson and we know it will be another tough game for us.”

Fitness issues mean that the County are limited as to what, if any, changes they could make but Peters admitted that the seam bowling could be freshened up.

“One or two places might be up for a change and our seamers, who’ve had a hard workload in the last couple of weeks, might need to be helped out,” he said.

That could mean a place for Olly Stone but there will be no alterations to the batting order with a loan move for Nottinghamshire’s Alex Hales falling through.
