Loddington & Mawsley clinched the Division One Cup in dramatic fashion on the final day of the shortened Northamptonshire Cricket League season.

After a curtailed league campaign and knockout stage, the divisional finals took place last weekend and it was Loddington who came out on top against Stony Stratford in the second tier.

Stony reached 173-6 in their 40 overs with Graham Simpson (42) being the top scorer while Loddington captain Liam Flecknor returned figures of 6-1-30-3.

Loddington looked to be on course as Jaymesh Patel (42) and Josh Plowright (37) scored well but wickets fell at regular intervals and, when their ninth went down, the hosts still needed five to win.

It went down to the final ball of the final game and, with the scores level and Loddington needing one to win, James Coles (9no) found the boundary to spark scenes of celebration.

There was also end-of-season joy for Weldon in the Division Two final.

They set a big total of 230 against Isham & Wellingborough Indians who were then bowled out for 113 as the hosts claimed a big 117-run success.

Elsewhere, Desborough 2nd thrashed Dunchurch & Bilton by 139 runs to emerge as overall winners of Division Six.

Lee Pollard (68) and Alex Forward (63) scored well in Desborough’s big total of 246-8 and Dunchurch were then dismissed for 107 in their reply with Alan Stead (4-6) and James Peel (4-43) doing the bulk of the damage.

In the Division Nine final, it was Finedon Dolben 4th who were celebrating as they edged out Brixworth 3rd in a low-scoring affair.

Brixworth were bowled out for just 89 with Daniel Morse (4-24), Frank Roberts (3-14) and Dan Miller (2-33) contributing to an all-round effort with the ball for Dolben.

But the chase proved tricky and, after Harry Moors had struck 20, Finedon struggled but Josh Kearney held his nerve and he guided them to 92-8 with an unbeaten 10.

Rushden & Higham 3rd won the Division 10 Cup with a six-wicket success over Bugbrooke 2nd.

Matthew Wildman (3-25) was the pick of the Rushden bowlers as they dismissed the hosts for 119.

And once Tony Jupp had struck 54 at the top of the reply, Rushden always looked in control with Grant Timms (30no) saw them to victory on 120-4 in the 38th over.
