Levi back to bolster County’s one-day batting ranks

Richard Levi is returning for a second stint at the County Ground

The South African, who played a crucial part in the club’s Twenty20 success last term, has signed a contract that will see him play in both the shortest form of the game - the newly named Natwest t20 Blast - and its 50-over cousin the Royal London One-Day Cup.

It is good news for the County who stood to lose both Levi and Cameron White from their limited overs set-up which would have left their batting seriously short of firepower.

But Levi’s re-acquisition, according to chief executive David Smith, can be considered a significant boost.

He said: “It’s excellent news for the club and made even better by the fact he will be available for the 50-over competition which we want to be competitive in.

“He was one of the reasons why we were able to win the Twenty20 last year and we do need that kinf of batting at the top of the order.

“We know him well, he fitted in nicely here and it will be good to have him back.”
